Helderkruin hijacking case not opened

Police did not take fingerprints and handed the retrieved vehicle back to the resident, seemingly without further investigation.

Resident Mickie Mc Geer remains shocked that according to police officers her situation does not justify a case of hijacking being opened, she told the Record on Monday 25 November.

This follows Mc Geer’s hijacking predicament on Wednesday 20 November on the premises of Printers Loft on Baanbreker Avenue, Helderkruin. As she was in her vehicle waiting for a client to meet her there (she is an agent by profession), she was grabbed by the neck and strangled. A man ripped off her necklace while another demanded her cellphone. Adamant as she is, She threw it at them and the tension rose.

In the following moments the culprits drove off in her vehicle. Mc Geer desperately yelled for help but the security guard on the premises allegedly did not come to her aid. Another resident ran to her rescue and assisted her in calling her husband and the police, and subsequently opening a case with the police.

“The police officers who came to assist me did not open a case of hijacking,” Mc Geer tells the Record.

She says that the policemen found her vehicle on the same day and handed it back to her without further investigation.

“To my knowledge they neither took fingerprints nor searched the car for possible clues that could have been left behind.

“A case of robbery only was opened for my cellphone, umbrella and jewellery.

“This means that nothing will be recorded on their systems by which to identify these criminals in future – that to me is unacceptable.”

Roodepoort police spokesperson Vincent Mashiteng said that he had forwarded the Record’s questions about the situation to Provincial Police for further comment, and promised to respond in his own capacity by the afternoon of Wednesday 27 November.
