Voter registration forms never collected

Councillor has to take matters in his own hands after IEC failed to collect forms.

Many pupils from La Salle College eagerly registered on 9 November to vote for the first time, excited to partake in the 2014 elections.

Little did they know that they might face the disappointment of being turned away at the voting station next year because their names do not appear on the national voters roll.

The college contacted Councillor Carl Mann and informed him that the registration forms have not been collected as per protocol. After many an email back and forth between him, the college and the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) – without any success – Mann collected the forms himself on 25 November and dropped it off at the IEC’s office at the Civic Centre.

Mann expressed his dismay about the situation and is concerned that this is not an isolated incident.
