Having just turned 11 in October, Northside resident Brendon Weir has had a successful golfing year thus far.

SA Kids Golf (SAKG) hosted it’s inaugural international tournament, the Junior Africa Challenge, at Zebula Golf Estate in Bela Bela in August this year. Weir placed second in the 10-year-old division, earning him automatic qualification into the European Junior Championships in Gullane, Scotland in June 2014; and the World Junior Championships in Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA in August 2014.

This is the 6th year in a row Weir has qualified for the world championships.

In October of this year Weir took part in the Eagle Canyon Junior Club Championships and won the B Division. He also played in the Young Golfers Tournament at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate where he came first in the 10-12 age division. He then went on to become the best overall skills champion in the Eagle Canyon Skills Competition.

In November he played in the 11-12 age division at Houghton Golf Club in the SAKG Open Tournament and achieved 1st place.

SAKG held the US Kids European/Malaysia Qualifier at Bronkhorstspruit Golf Club in November 2013 and in the 11-year-old age division Weri achieved first place.

He has also just been selected to represent Central Gauteng in the Inter-Provincial Primary Schools Golf Championships which are to be held at Graceland in Secunda in December 2013.
