RD Racing aims for a hat-trick
Team Illiterate are heading for a third win at this year's 24 Hour Endurance Race
Strubens Valley-based RD Racing will once again be sending their racing squad, Team Illiterate, to Red Star Raceway in Mpumalanga. The team, aptly named for its makeup of motorcycle journalists, will arrive on 7 December to defend its title in the annual Bike SA 24 Hour Endurance race.
Now in its third year, the motorcycle race sees teams of four to six riders take turns riding a single motorcycle for 24 hours straight. The squad to wrap up the most laps after the 24 hour period wins, just like the Le Mans 24 hour car race in France.
RD Racing, run by David Postlethwayt and Darryll Robertson, is a superbike tuning and maintenance shop and they specially prepared their Triumph Daytona 675R race bike for the event.
Team Illiterate is made up of four riders. Clinton Pienaar writes for Superbike Magazine and Robert Portman writes for MCSA (Motorcycle South Africa) Magazine. Craig Watson and Donovan Fourie write for Bike SA, while Matt Smith is a popular motorsports commentator for both SuperSport and Ignition TV. He also contributes to Offroad & Adventure SA Magazine.
The team has taken first place in the 24 Hour Endurance Race for the last two years running. “We’re eagerly anticipating a hat-trick this year,” said team manager David Postlethwayt. “We’re definitely hoping to repeat the success of the previous performances in the race.”
