Reduced summons for late wife

An interesting follow-up to an already ludicrous state of affairs.

Sampie Botha (email)

Dear Mathilde Myburgh

After reading your article Nine fines for innocent motorist (59) (Record 25 October edition), I decided to contact you regarding something I wanted to forget about.

I sent your paper a note about this already, which you edited and published, but there has been a funny sequel.

The JMPD had later replied with a reduced summons after my daughter had posted my late wife’s death certificate.

The traffic guys are really a weird bunch!

This letter pertains to an earlier letter, published in the Record, about a man who kept getting fines and summons from the JMPD on his wife’s name despite her passing. Her summons has been reduced only after his daughter went to the effort of posting them a death certificate. Thank you for the notification, Sampie! — Mathilde Myburgh, journalist.
