Election year is approaching fast and residents who want to partake in the privilege of living in a democracy has to make sure they are registered.
This weekend (9 and 10 November) will see a nationwide drive to get voters registered.
First of all, if a person is unsure whether he or she is registered they can send an sms with their ID number (R1) to 32810. They will receive an sms back that will tell them whether they are registered.
People who have moved from one area to another also has to go register again in the new area they reside in.
So called ‘born frees’ (those born in 1994) will be first-time voters and are encouraged also to go and register.
On registration day a person will need his or her ID book, a temporary ID or the new ID card. No other identification such as a drivers licence will be accepted.
A list of all the voting stations in the Greater Roodepoort area will follow in the course of the day.
