Success for Helderkruin-based academy at Sun City Swim
“A satisfactory performance,” says Academy.
Training paid off for some 32 swimmers from the Swimming Academy who put in a satisfactory performance at the annual Dis-Chem Sun City Swim held in Rustenburg in October.
The Swimming Academy, based at 485 Impala Avenue in Helderkruin is a learn-to-swim school with over 150 members. Although relatively new, more than 30 of its members participated in the Sun City Swim, leaving with satisfactory results.
The Sun City Swim, according to its official website www.suncityswim.co.za, is an “annual swim held among the swaying palms, lush tropical gardens and crystal waters of the Sun City resort …” and kicked off the 2013/2014 open water swimming season “in grand style”.
Monique Cronje of the academy says, “Our youngest competitor was Guiliana Vieira (7) who participated in the 600m fun swim. Our top three swimmers who did exceptionally well in the 1.5km were:
• Kirstie Leigh Pedro: 00:37:31
• Blade White-Smee: 00:43:01
• Byron Groove: 00:45:24
“The Swimming Academy is a Swim School where we teach children from the age of three all the way up to adults how to swim and be water safe.
“We also teach stroke correction as well as train for open water swims. We will continue our training as we will be taking part in the Lake Heritage Swim held at Heia Safari and then after that we head off to Midmar in February 2014”.
