Monthly electricity account in spite of pre-paid meter

The City doesn't seem to have any idea how to deal with pre-paid meters.

Carina Courtney of Weltevreden Park writes:

I read Belinda Pheto’s article “No answer for billing query” (week ending 8 November) and am sorry to say that while the Gardner’s are waiting now for installation of a pre-paid meter in the hope it will solve their problems, that is highly unlikely. I had a pre-paid meter installed on 4 April but am still being billed for ridiculous amounts (estimations) of electricity every month. Even worse, they are now threatening to cut me off for non-payment of this despite my buying pre-paid electricity every month.

I have lodged several queries, sent numerous e-mails and spent many hours on the phone, at the municipality and at the Langlaagte depot over the last seven months. I was also assured over the phone that it would be resolved and I should simply not pay the electricity portion of the bill, just the rates, water, refuse and sewerage. This is what I have been doing as there is now way I can afford to pay for fictitious electricity as well as pre-paid. Now they are threatening to cut it off! I am at my wits end.
