Swimmers battle it out
Time Freight Swim Challenge kicks off
Swimming enthusiasts attended the annual Time Freight Heia Safari Swim Challenge, which took place on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 October at Heia Safari Ranch in Muldersdrift.
The dam in which the race took place is rated as one of the cleanest in Gauteng.
Despite some very windy weather, swimmers were determined to get the ball rolling.
The swim challenge was the first of a four-part series and participants took part in races ranging from 400 to 3000 metres. All finishers received a medal and category medals were awarded to the top three finishers. The oldest finisher award went to 74-year-old Jimmy Mould who completed the 1500m course in an impressive 38 minutes 25 seconds.
Event organiser Wayne Riddin said, “We looked forward to the first seeding event at the Heia Safari. It is always well supported from the venue and participants”.
The 2013 challenge makes room for a new champion as defending champion Mark Randall has gone into retirement and is now coaching.
The next Time Freight Heia Safari Swim Challenge will take place on Sunday 17 November with distances of 1000m and 5kms being contested.
