Choc Childhood Cancer Foundation of South Africa originated in 1979 and has in recent years become associated with those gentle black and white bovine creatures. When a group of humans decided to take part in the 94.7 Cycle Challenge in 2008, to raise funds for Choc, they chose to dress in gear made to look like splotchy cow hides. Since then they have become a widely-recognised, fund-raising force, officially registered as The Cows™.

Over the years the cycling herd has expanded, becoming increasingly successful, creating awareness and raising a huge amount of money for Choc.

On November 17 2013, The Cows will again be donning their distinctive gear to take up the Momentum 94.7 Cycle Challenge – hopefully with a herd of 400. Funds collected in 2013 will be used to support some of Choc’s on-going costs, including the running costs for Choc houses in Cape Town and East London, childhood cancer research, and the provision of psycho-social support in the form of social workers.

The Cows are committed to extending their success throughout South Africa and ensuring, with Choc, that the monies raised by the herd and other generous donors are utilised for the year’s specified projects. They are dedicated to continue, with enthusiasm and gusto, the fight against childhood cancer.
