Ebenezer House reaps the benefits

Ebenezer House surprised with a donation of a working washing machine.

Surprise spread across Kerry von Buddenbrock’s face when a great donation was made to Ebenezer House on the morning of Tuesday 8 October.

Ebenezer House provides a home and care to adults who suffer from psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar depression. Kerry, the Ebenezer House fundraiser, happily received the generous donation of a washing machine from Bergen’s Krugersdorp. Bergen’s is a business group that specialises in appliance repairs.

Bergen’s Krugersdorp manager Bernadette Fischer contacted the Record prior to the handover to gather more information about the NPO’s premises. It was agreed that the washing machine to be donated would be kept a surprise, and that Fischer would set up a handover with her for washing powder only.

“I read the article and it stayed with me while we were busy clearing out our storerooms at work. I then came across this washing machine and felt that they would put it to better use than we do.”

After setting things up with the Record, Kerry was called outside to receive a donation, where she found a bright, white and working washing machine in the driveway.

Clifford Molokere and Teboho and Kgotso Borinate helped to carry the machine into the house. At around 10.20am discussions started about setting it up for the House as well, free of charge. Bernadette heard that two of the House’s washing machines were broken and one was leaking.

“Bernadette had called me about the washing powder but the machine came as such a big surprise!” Kerry told the Record.

Von Buddenbrock and House director Charmaigne Hennings thank the community for their caring phonecalls and donations over the past two weeks.

“We have had a phenomenal response to our appeal, thanks to the Record and NEWS.”

Other items that were donated to the House recently include clothing, DVDs and a DVD player.
