Voters meet at St Michaels Retirement Village

Ward councillor helps the elderly register

Ward 89 councillor Ingrid Reinten recently organised a meet-and-greet with the patrons of St Michael’s Retirement Village, with the aim of registering the residents to vote.

In doing so, come elections in May, the Independent Electoral Committee (IEC) will bring the voting booth to the elderly and frail residents of St Michael’s.

It is often difficult for the elderly to reach polling stations to cast their votes owing to transport, distance and disability. Reinten’s initiative to bring the IEC to the village is a shining example of how ward councillors in and around Roodepoort are securing democracy in our communities by ensuring that all registered voters are able to vote.

Voters from Roodepoort and Randburg who registered in Gauteng will be able to vote at the following stations:

– Panorama Primary

– Kroton Road South

– Cliffview Primary

– Laerskool Fairland

– Zoe Ministries
