Witpoortjie’s Ebenezer House in need

Witpoortjie's own Ebenezer House appeals to residents for help to keep the home running.

The Ebenezer House, a Witpoortjie-based home for adults that suffer from psychiatric disorders, is in need of the community’s help to sustain its work.

The Ebenezer House caters for those with disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar depression, and currently takes care of around 30 people.

Most of these people spend 75 per cent of their disability grant on board and lodging, therefore there are many needs.

According to online profiles, many of those residing at Ebenezer House have been abandoned by their families and often suffer relapses or severe depression before Christmas, making the home’s medical expenses that much higher.

“The Ebenezer House is appealing to Roodepoorters to help us to help our residents,” Kerry von Buddenbrack told the Record.

“We are in need of assistance in the form of food, clothing and washing powder.

“We also need electronic equipment – not only to keep the house functioning but for the purposes of exercising our residents.

“We ask for donations and the installation of television sets and DVD players to play exercise DVDs, movies and music for our residents.

“We also need new washing machines.”

Von Buddenbrack says that it would be ideal if Roodepoorters could open their hearts and sponsor a resident for a month at a time.

She asks that residents contact her if they require further information or to make a donation.

She can be contacted on 081 000 6938. Alternatively, contact the Ebenezer House office on 011 955 6595.

The Ebenezer House is situated on 5 and 7 Ham Street, Witpoortjie.
