Update: Moodley promises clean-up at primary school

City Parks is responsible, Moodley says, and it will be reported to the relevant depot.

Galpin Way and Schultz Street in Horizon View, just outside the Horizon View Primary School, are in dire need of a clean-up for which no one seems to want to take responsibility.

As promised, City Parks spokesperson Jenny Moodley sent a written response on Monday 9 September regarding the Record’s query about the area and who is responsible for its upkeep.

She explained that “this is a Johannesburg City Parks responsibility”.

“We manage soft-surfaced sidewalks and the city’s street trees.”

The Record shared evidence of elaborate natural waste degrading the two streets’ image. Residents shared their grievances with the Record, believing that it is Horizon View Primary School’s responsibility since “most of the waste is outside the main gate where children are dropped off and picked up,” as one resident stated.

“City Parks will ensure that the relevant depot is informed so that the area could be cleaned,” Moodley said on Tuesday 10 September.

“However, we appeal to the school to repair the fence and to inculcate a greater awareness in the pupils of the importance of keeping our environment clean.”

The comment about awareness follows clear evidence, as is in the possession of the Record, of general litter strewn across the parking lot, street and inside the parameters of the school.

Moodley would like to remind residents that they can report service concerns in their area by contacting 011 275 5555.
