Impromptu speeches and humour at Florida Toastmasters

The Florida Toastmasters is presenting their Humorous and Impromptu Speech Contest.

Florida Toastmasters Club’s Humorous and Impromptu Speech Contest will be held at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre on 17 September.

Florida Toastmasters is one of more than 14 350 Toastmasters Clubs around the world. Each spring, members compete in club-level speech contests. The club speech contest winner then proceeds to the area contest and then to the division contest, if applicable. The division winner then proceeds to the district contest. The winner of this contest will vie for the title of “World Champion of Public Speaking,” which will climax at the organisation’s Annual International Convention, says public relations officer Dawn Hemming.

“For the first time in Toastmasters’ history, the organisation will hold its International Convention outside of North America.

“The 2014 convention will take place in Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.”

“The selection of this Southeast Asian city reflects the global nature of Toastmasters International as well as its evolving membership.

“More than 30 per cent of all Toastmasters now live outside North America, and the greatest membership growth is in Southeast Asia.”

“Kuala Lumpur offers the most benefits to their members and the organisation as a whole,” says Toastmasters International Executive Director Daniel Rex.

“As a global organisation, having as many people as possible attend the convention is always our goal.”

Kuala Lumpur is central to a broad pool of members, which will give more members the opportunity to attend, says Hemming

Toastmasters International is the world’s largest non-profit educational organisation devoted to communication and leadership development. The Florida Toastmasters’ Humorous and Impromptu Speech Contest will commence at 7.15pm and residents are invited to join in the fun.

Florida Toastmasters Club meets at the Huguenot Restaurant in Flora Centre located at the corner of Conrad and Ontdekkers Roads, Florida on every first and third Tuesday of the month at 7.15pm for 7.30pm.
