Quick response to Discovery accident

An accident in front of her house was responded to quickly, much to a resident's surprise.

A resident is impressed with the quick response to an accident scene in front of her house on Clarendon Drive on the morning of Wednesday 4 September.

“It all happened just before 8am right in front of my house so I phoned the SAPS emergency number (10111).

“The call was answered immediately and after they had undertaken to send members to the scene, they put me through to Joburg EMS to arrange for an ambulance.

“Everyone necessary was here in under 10 minutes,” resident Charmaigne Burger told the Record.

Burger said that she saw five ambulances, two paramedic patrol vehicles, three JMPD vehicles and some SAPS vehicles on scene within minutes of her call.

It seemed that the taxi involved in the accident did not carry any passengers and she could not confirm whether any patients were transported to medical facilities.

Burger believed that the accident occurred when the taxi attempted to turn into 5th Avenue in front of an oncoming bakkie, causing the collision.

The accident could not be confirmed with Joburg EMS since their office and cellular phones were not being answered.
