Smile, you’re on cruelty camera

The Roodepoort SPCA needs cameras to capture cruel owners and actions.

The Roodepoort SPCA approached the Record with a desperate plea for donations to help them when collecting evidence.

Roodepoort SPCA manager Mandy Catanach believes that a few decent cameras will assist the SPCA in capturing evidence for their cases against cruelty. Catanach says that technically it is not in their job description, but they try to conclude their investigations into cases of alleged animal cruelty as quickly as possible.

“We do have phones and donated older cameras but the photos they produce are not necessarily up to standard and in some cases, because of their quality, don’t prove anything.

“Some new and proper cameras, like the ones journalists use, could really assist us in evidencing our claims against cruel people.

“Our older donated cameras just don’t do the trick anymore.

Cattanach thanks residents for their donations to date but emphasises the importance of new cameras.

“Our photos don’t look professional when they’re printed off a phone and put in the docket.

“Let’s make our case against animal cruelty stronger.”

Residents or companies interested in sponsoring these cameras can contact Mandy Cattanach on 072 868 0478.
