For Casual Day residents of the Gateway Village in Ruimsig were treated to music and dancing.

Gateway Village is home to 92 physically and mentally disabled people.

Gateway fundraiser Michelle Butterworth said they approached Christle-Lyn Beech from Hosanna Creative Arts and His Healing Hands Ministries in Wilropark, Roodepoort, to perform for the Gateway residents.

Colourfully adorned in big glasses, hats and wigs, the residents had quite a treat singing and dancing along to the music.

Beech and four school pupils, Joanette Watkins, Marique Watkins, Jasmin Cloete and Jaime Cloete, who all take classes at Hosanna Creative Arts, performed a few dance numbers and sang songs like “Waterloo”, “Under the Sea”, and several religious songs including “In die hemel is die Heer”.

The Watkins sisters performed the “Gangnam Style” dance by the South Korean rapper Psy.

Afterwards the residents had lunch.

Butterworth expressed her gratitude to Beech who rearranged her schedule so that she could be at Gateway for the day.
