Kids at Kloofendal this spring

School holiday programme to be presented at Kloofendal Nature Reserve.

Everyone is looking forward to what spring has to put on the table for children at the Kloofendal Nature Reserve.

This September, the Kloofendal Nature Reserve will be hosting a series of children’s events as part of their school holiday programme reserved for both parents and children.

Friends of Kloofendal’s (FroK’s) Karin Spottiswoode says that children and parents should round up and get ready for the greatest adventures this spring.

Children will be allowed to explore throughout the reserve. As part of the experience they will be tour-guided through an expedition to go looking for animals, learning about nature and plants, capturing insects, finding interesting rocks and playing games.

“Children need to bring their own food parcels, water and drinks as there are no tuck shops at the reserve.

“But there are ablution facilities in the amphitheatre area,” says Karin.

FroK will be handing out sample jars to collect anything that will be of interest, however unfortunately all nature treasures and captured insects belong in the reserve.

FroK will be hosting a Bundu Bash Adventure on 25 September from 9am to 12 noon, with an entrance fee of R80 per participant.

Bring out the artist in you

On Friday 27 September from 9am to 12 noon the Kloofendal Nature Reserve will host an expedition called Art from Nature. Children will walk around with a field guide to collect grass flowers, seeds, twigs and leaves to express their creativity through nature.

FroK will provide all that are needed such as paint, paper, brushes and Carlton rolls. Participants should bring their own food and drinks for breaks as there are no tuck shops in the Kloofendal amphitheatre area.

There are sanitary ablution facilities and picnic facilities should you wish to relax and watch nature take its cause. Each participant (both children and adults) is to pay R120 for the day.

Junior Ranger programme

There will be a children’s goldmine adventure on Saturday 28 September from 9am to 12 noon at the Kloofendal Nature Reserve. Each participant (both children and adults) is to pay an R80 joining fee.

“Snacks will be provided but it would be best for parents to bring along picnic lunch for after the walk,” says Karin.

There are no shops in the reserve, however, sanitary facilities are provided.

On Monday 30 September from 9am to 12 noon, children from age five to 12 are being given the opportunity to explore the nature reserve by partaking in the Nature Adventure Walk (R80 per child and R50 per parent or grandparent) followed by a junior ranger programme at the FroK Environmental Education Centre.

Children are to bring lunch and drinks. There is no fee expected for assisting the participant or grandchild in the Junior Ranger Programme.
