For the second year in a row the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) has not received a clean audit from the Auditor General, Terence Novembe.
However, the five metros in the country seem to be in the same boat as none of them managed to receive a clean audit. From the 278 municipalities that were audited only five received clean audits, which is hardly any comfort.
Some of the reasons cited is the size of the metro, incompetent officials and irregular expenditure.
Gauteng also had the dubious honour of being the province with the highest regression in terms of irregularities (58 per cent).
The Record is awaiting comment on the matter from the City of Johannesburg’s Communication Department.
