Neighbourhood watch catches burglar

Suspect arrested for housebreaking and theft.

A man (30) was arrested for housebreaking and theft on 9 August after being caught in the act by the owner of the house.

The homeowner came home the evening and noticed an unknown car parked next to his house. He saw a man jumping his fence, who ran away when he saw the homeowner. The suspect was followed by two more suspects.

The homeowner called the neighbourhood watch who promptly responded and gave chase. One suspect was apprehended but the other two got away.

Various items to the value of R15 000 was found in the suspect’s car, which included three hunting knives, a microwave oven, fax machine, TV, clothes and jewellery.

The arrested suspect was handed over to the police and charged with housebreaking and theft. He appeared in the Roodepoort Magistrates’ Court on 12 August.
