Taxi collides with security van

The current roadworks in Blueberry Street was not the only reason that traffic was at a stand still on 12 August. A taxi and van collision caused quite a delay.

At about 8am on 12 August, traffic flow was affected on Blueberry Street in Honeydew due to an accident between a taxi and a security company van.

According to eyewitnesses, the taxi was driving towards oncoming traffic when it collided with a Bulldog Security van.

The taxi driver, Eric Muruba said, “The traffic was slow, as the road is under construction. I thought it would be faster for me to drive on the other side, I didn’t know that my action would turn out like this.”

The driver of the van, Michael Shabangu said he was shocked and frustrated about what happened. He said he was about to turn into his workplace when the taxi collided with his car. “This is a very bad start to my day and week,” he said. “I don’t know what to say, I’ve never experienced this in my life. I fail to understand how one can drive on the wrong side of the road. The worst part of it was I had my indicator on to show that I was turning, but this driver was clearly not cautious,” he said.

Eric Nichollas of Vital Med emergency response said two passengers who were sitting in the front of the taxi sustained minor injuries and were taken to Helen Joseph Hospital by paramedics for further medical care.
