Man (26) found hanging from tree
A young man in Struben's Valley was discovered hanging from a public tree.
The body of a 26-year-old man was discovered hanging from a tree on the corner of Cascades Avenue and Hendrik Potgieter Road on 31 July.
According to the communications officer at the Honeydew Police Station, Warrant Officer Karen Jacobs, the man – whose identity is known to the police – was found at approximately 9.20am by a passer-by on his way to work.
“The witness made the discovery passing the tree on foot,” added Jacobs.
Journalists were banned from the scene on arrival, but were informed that the deceased’s cousin had been contacted.
A Honeydew police sector officer was the first to arrive on the scene, after which detectives took over to do the necessary investigation.
Rescue workers from Johannesburg Emergency Services (EMS) and Rigga Rescue removed the body from the tree and it was then transported to the Roodepoort Government Mortuary.
“An inquest docket was opened and the incident will be investigated. At this stage no foul play is suspected,” Jacobs said in the statement.
