Canoeist represents SA at Junior Champs in Canada

Youngster looking forward to the challenge.

In the wake of the bronze medal earned by Bridgitte Hartley at the 2012 London Olympic Games, the canoeing unions are working flat out to uplift and improve the overall standards of sprint – the Olympic discipline – throughout South Africa.

Following some stringent sprint training camps and an exhaustive three days of selections, Gauteng is very proud that three U/23 as well as three U/18 paddlers from the province were selected to be included in the 13-man squad that is representing South Africa at the ICF Junior and U/23 Canoe Sprint World Championships in Welland, Ontario in Canada.

The championships take place from Thursday 1 to Sunday 4 August.

Dugan Afonso who lives in Discovery and attends Victory House private school, has been selected for the U/18 squad and is looking forward to the challenge.

The squad left for Canada in late July.
