Rocci awards participation in Potjiekos competition
We couldn't have asked for better participation, says Rocci employees.
Diane Graham from the Roodepoort Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Rocci) Events Department was happy to announce the annual Absa and Rocci Potjiekos competition winners.
“Not only was the food great, but the team spirit and levels of participation was something to marvel at,” Diane told the Record.
Each entered team had a theme and a team name. Rocci wishes to thank all parties that contributed on the day, including Absa, Misty Hills Country Hotel, Virgin Active, Protea Hotel and South African Breweries Limited (SAB).
Besides the actual potjie winners, Rocci rewarded those who had the best dressed chef, the best team spirit, the best exhibit, the best dressed team and the best hospitality on the day. At the awards ceremony on the evening of the event, which took place on Friday 19 July, a Gold, Silver and Bronze winning team was announced.
Guvon Hotels with a Sultans of Marrakesh theme were announced the Gold winners. Silver went to Vega Instruments SA, who called themselves the Ama Potjie Kings. Bronze went to another Vega Instruments SA team that called themselves the Mighty Mosquitos.
“We really could not have asked for better participation,” said Lillian Matlhaku from Rocci’s Bookings Department.

Best dressed chef: Vega Instruments SA (Egyptian chefs)
Best team spirit: Legend Hospitality School (Legends of the Caribbean)
Best exhibit: Guvon Hotels
Best dressed team: Vega Instruments SA (Mad Hatters and Alice)
Best hospitality: Business Partners Limited (Doctors on call)
