Homeless man found dead at Witpoortjie station
Station death: natural causes a possibility.
The Witpoortjie community is shocked after the body of a homeless man was found next to the Witpoortjie train station early on Friday morning 26 July.
First to arrive on the scene was Johan Willemse from the Witpoortjie Community Policing Forum Sector 2.
“We received a disturbing call that the body of a man was seen on the grass next to the station as if he was asleep,” he told the Record.
“On my arrival we cordoned off the area immediately and contacted the South African Police Service (SAPS)”.
SAPS did not want to comment on scene. Netcare 911 arrived shortly afterwards and spokesperson Chris Ritchie declared the man dead on scene at 7.26am.
“On our arrival no pulse was present. A post mortem will determine the cause of death.”
There was no clear evidence that the man was murdered and authorities believe he died of natural causes.
