Prayer walk against crime

Church, residents and police have a prayer walk against crime in Cosmo City.

On Saturday 13 July the Cosmo City Churches Forum, Honeydew SAPS and the community of Cosmo City took to the streets with a prayer walk against crime.

Due to crime being a serious challenge in Cosmo City a five legged strategy by the Cosmo City Churches forum was established to play a direct role and to reclaim Cosmo City from crime.

Pastor Vuyami Gxagxama of the Cosmot City Churches Forum coordinated the event.

“Cosmo City residents feel ‘no more’ with crime. Currently Cosmo City is the crime capital of the Honeydew Police Cluster, and we would not like it if that is what the area is known for.”

The prayer walk took place in three segments throughout Cosmo City:

Segment 1 started at the park at Extension 3 and finished at the Cosmo City SAPS satellite station,

Segment 2 started at the park at Extension 6 in Seychelles Street and finished at the park in Extension 2 Lesotho Street.

Segment 3 started at the park at Extension 5 in Antigua Street and finished at the park in Tennessee Street in Extension 0.

The prayer walk started at 11:00 in the different segments and continued to 14:30.

The Honeydew SAPS station commander Brigadier Wayne Sirkhot also joined one of the groups and addressed the church leaders at the Cosmo City satellite station after the event.

Honeydew Police spokesmen warrant officer Karen Jacobs Sirkhot expressed his gratitude towards the Church Forum for the way they are informing the community about the attention crime in the area received.

He said people could see that authorities are concerned about crime and he invited everybody to again participate in such walks.
