Van Coke Kartel disgusted at Mandela rumours, feud
It is not every day that an Afrikaans rock band comments on Mandela's health.
During recent visit to Rumours Lounge, a Record journalist saw the opportunity to get comment abo the politics around Mandela’s health from an unimagined source.
Van Coke Kartel told the Record on Wednesday 17 July that it would be absolutely disgusting, should the rumours be true that the Mandela family is considering “pulling the plug” on the beloved former president on his birthday.
Bassist Wynand Myburgh says that it would be “purely unorthodox from a public relations perspective” to do such a thing on such a celebrated day.
“Obviously, the whole debacle about the Mandela money is also pure bullsh*t, but I am guessing that it is quite the sum.”
Francois van Coke says the band could not report any specific Mandela Day activities from their side because they are always touring around the time of these big celebrations.
Mac Maharaj, on behalf of the Presidency, reported on the morning of 18 July that Mandela’s health is steadily improving.
“Madiba remains in hospital in Pretoria but his doctors have confirmed that his health is steadily improving.”
The band feels that their “only education” lies in music, therefore the tour would be their version of a celebration.
