Pikitup go-slow now full-blown strike

From sit-in to cop-out.

Pikitup employees’ go-slow protest against working conditions now has turned into a full-blown strike, albeit illegal, according to DA spokesperson for Pikitup, Allan Fuchs.

Fuchs who spoke to the Record on 4 July said that he was informed by the Operations Manager of the troubled service entity that the five depots, including Roodepoort, are indeed on strike. This after a 5 May court order in favour of Pikitup prohibited the South African Municipal Workers Union’s (Samwu) action.

“It is unacceptable that when Pikitup and Samwu cannot sort out their differences the residents suffer,” says Fuchs.

“Mayor Parks Tau should intervene in this crisis. Pikitup allegedly unsuccessfully tried to set up a meeting with Samwu. I will approach the Pikitup acting Manager (Amanda Nair is on her controversial overseas trip) and if I do not get the desired result, I will take it up with the City Manager,” says Fuchs.
