Police recover 80kg stolen copper cable

Two arrested for the crime, one escapes.

The Florida South African Police Service (SAPS) managed to arrest two men successfully for being in possession of suspected stolen copper cable on Wednesday morning 3 July.

According to Captain Lydia Mtila-Dikolomela, “The copper cable recovered amount to 80kg with an estimated value of R4 000. The men arrested are aged 34 and 22.”

The two officers responsible for the arrests are Constables JR White and S Maceke.

“We received an anonymous tip-off of a suspicious white Toyota Condo with three occupants heading towards Helpmekaar Street in Rand Leases. The call was made at around 6.30am.

“On our arrival we spotted the vehicle parked on a dirt road nearby. We put on our siren to warn that police are approaching when two of the men suddenly ran off while one of them remained in the vehicle.

“We arrested him and gave chase after the other two but only managed to catch one of them. The other unfortunately managed to escape.”
